Award Links

The other day I was going through my old emails looking for ideas for my column and I came across some links I had emailed myself. I have the habit of emailing account information to myself, and placing the emails in my “Accounts” folder. By doing so, I know exactly where to go when I need any information later – sometimes years later. I also email myself passwords and other things I don’t want to forget. Well, at one point in time I emailed myself some links to awards I’ve received (listed on my Computer Resume page).

The first link is to the ACM SIGUCCS Fall 2005 Conference Awards page held in Monterey, CA where they list that years’ award winners. My name is not listed because I had already left Indiana University by that time, but I did program the Personnel Information Environment (PIE) that won this award. Sue Perin will give me full credit for the project and is listed as one of my references on my paper resume. The application won 2nd Place (large) in Category 1b: Student Employee Web Site.

The second link is to my PIE demo page. This doesn’t even begin to show all the features of PIE! However, it is all that’s available because this is an internal application used for payroll and time keeping. If you need to see more, Sue will be happy to arrange a demo of the application for you. I also have the entire code base, dumps of the database, and even have the original flowcharts on two DVDs that I can show prospective employers.

The third link is to the Boutell Hall of Fame page. Tom is a famous UNIX guru (Wikipedia has something to say about him). Tom Boutell used his page to link to sites he thought were good pages supporting his graphic programs. Tom awarded my page the Mapedit Best How-To Page and is the first link listed. I was a student when I wrote this page in April 1997, just three years after the web began! Tom’s link is to my old Engineering and Technology account which is defunct. As always, I keep copies of almost everything, so I’ve republished the page here on my site. Surprisingly, it still has some value to today’s web developers.

I have other old sites that I might republish at a later date just because they are fun to look at.
