Website Statistics

November 1st, 2009

I’ve been noticing some interesting spikes in my web stats following the last couple of articles I’ve posted. It appears I’m actually developing a following of people who are interested in my articles. Not very many people, mind you, but real live people none-the-less. If you are one of these people, thank you.

So, I thought I would share my statistics with you. Sort of a exercise on how long it takes to develop traffic and to climb the search engine ranks. I will basically summarize the stats thus far, and then each month (or maybe every other month) I’ll update them in a new post. In that way, you can watch me rise to stardom, or crash into oblivion. It might be interesting either way.

July

I bought the domain name this past January with the intention of developing a professional site, but I never got around to it until July. July coincides with the writing of my first article. My thought process was something along the lines of “I’m doing something interesting that future employers might like to see” and so I finally decided to actually make the site and put my domain name to use.

The stats are pretty sparse. I’m not even sure how people found the site. I didn’t even tell family. In fact, it’s November now, and I still haven’t told family.

I received a total of 7 unique visitors, and one of them was me. All my visitors were from the United States. My bandwidth usage was a whopping 5.82 MB. I only received 1 visitor on July 23, the day I posted my first article, Modern-Day Viruses Are Sophisticated.

August

In August, I received 31 unique visitors, using 38.86 MB of bandwidth. Again, I was one of the visitors. My visitors, in order, were from:

  • United States
  • Canada
  • Sweden
  • Great Britain

I received 5 visitors the day I published my second article, Keep Your Children Safe On The Web.

September

In September, I received 64 unique visitors and used 59.78 MB of bandwidth.

The visitors, in order, were from:

  • United States
  • Canada
  • Sweden
  • Netherlands
  • Latvia
  • Luxembourg

Kind of makes you wonder, doesn’t it?

The What Is All The Chatter About Twitter? article received 6 visitors, and 16 more the following day.

The article Backing Up Your Computer Is Important only received 11 visitors.

The article titled Make Sure Your Wireless Is Secure generated visitors for several days. Get this, 64 unique visitors. Nearly everyone came back to read it, or I got a bunch of new visitors. Hard to tell which.

October

In October, I had 122 unique visitors using 100.97 MB of bandwidth coming from:

  • United States
  • Canada
  • Sweden
  • Great Britain
  • Luxembourg
  • South Korea
  • Philippines
  • France
  • Netherlands
  • Italy
  • Hungary
  • Trinidad and Tobago
  • Latvia
  • Germany

Now I’m really wondering. Do they even know how to read English in some of those countries?

The article What Is A Firewall? generated 124 visitors over the following week, some of them repeats obviously.

The post Award Links which is basically an extension of my computer resume, generated 40 visitors the first day, and 110 over the week. Again, I’m seeing repeat visitors. The number of people checking out my professional blog prompted me to finally update my computer resume to include my current position.

My latest article, Are You Safe Shopping Online?, just published last week, brought 58 unique visitors the first day, 17 the following, and I’ve had above-average visitors ever since. Will the trend continue?

I’m kind of excited to see what the future holds. I’m a bit surprised that I’m getting an increased number of readers to be completely honest with you. Will let you know how things go next month.
